JAIPUR: With illegal dairy booths mushrooming all over the city and encroaching footpaths and government’s prime land, the Jaipur Municipal Corporation (JMC) has finally decided to carry out a survey and crack a whip against these establishments.

In JMC records, license has been provided to establish approximately 800 Saras booths in the city. However, there are more than 5,500 such illegal establishments. Mahesh Kalwanai, license committee, chairman at JMC said, “We are carrying out a survey in every ward to find out about these illegal establishments. Licenses of the illegal dairy booths will be cancelled. Our sanitation inspectors and sub-inspectors have been deployed for the survey.”

In violation of the high court orders, these booth owners have also constructed booths bigger than the prescribed size, in order to sell other products. “As per the JMC guidelines, size of the booths should be 10x10 feet. But, most of these owners have set up bigger kiosks on roadsides and footpaths. These encroachments affect the public interest. Moreover, they are also illegally cooking at these kiosks,” said a JMC official.

After receiving a no objection certificate (NOC) from the Saras dairy and a letter from the traffic, the JMC in the past had issued permission to set up the kiosks. Sources at JMC said, “The illegal numbers of kiosks have sprung as owners are operating more than one booth on issued registration numbers.”

However, the officials at Rajasthan Cooperative Dairy Federation (RCDF) refuted the allegations of having illegal booths in the city. RCDF claims, there are three categories of authorised booths in the city that includes parlour, booths and shop agency. “There are not more than 600 booths in the city. Moreover, milk is not supplied to any illegal booth and we maintain a record of our supply. Our vehicles also have GPS fitted system and even drivers cannot supply milk to unauthorised booths,” said an official at RCDF.

They further said if JMC still believes that illegal booths are operational, a joint team can be constituted for the inspection. “Following a high court direction, a joint team was constituted earlier for the same. However, JMC officials left the survey in the middle. We are willing to share all our records,” added an official at RCDF.
