LUDHIANA: The Punjab State Cooperative Milk Producers’ Federation Limited’s (Milkfed), which produces Verka brand, recent price hike of 2 per litre of milk is all set to burn a hole in the pockets of consumers as not only their daily glass of milk has become dearer but with the festival of Holi around the corner, the price of milk products and sweets is also bound to rise.
Milkfed, which produces Verka brand, has increased the price by 2 per litre.
While HT interacted with some retailers and consumers, everyone unequivocally echoed, ‘Kya yeh hai ache din’? (Are these the good days?), retorting that Verka has raised the price of milk, twice in six months.
Satinderjit Kaur, a homemaker, said that such changes always affect the monthly budget planning.
“I always prepare a monthly budget and such a sudden increase in the milk price has disturbed it. Now, I have to prioritise the more important expenditure for this month while leaving rest of the purchase for the next month,” she added.
“Our selling rates are fixed by the state government and have not been changed for the last three years.
The milk prices have increased time and again leading to increase in our expenses but the earning is still the same,” expressed a canteen owner, requesting anonymity, at Punjab Agricultural University.
“At present I buy milk at 50 per litre which in coming days will cost me 52 per litre but the price of one glass of milk will remain 10, until it is revised by the state government,” he added.
